Today I am going to talk about hair metal, which is also known as glam metal. It was a type of music that was famous the decade before I was born. It kind of died when grunge came along. It came mainly from the LA Hollywood strip although there was bands that came from the east coast (Bon Jovi). I started listening to glam metal or hair metal a few years ago, but really I can remember hearing it when I was much younger from my dad watching VH1 Classic. It is said that you grow up listening to what your parents listen to and that is true.
My most favorite bands when I started listening to it again (I say again because I heard it when I was much younger) were Motley Crue, Poison, Ratt, LA Guns, Skid Row, Warrant, Cinderella, Def Leppard, Vixen, Lita Ford, Faster Pussycat, and Bon Jovi. I also used to like Guns n' Roses, but now because of the knowledge I have on the band members, I can't listen to them, it just makes my skin crawl.
Motley Crue consists of Tommy Lee, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, and Vince Neil (also The Nasty Habits were a part of the band) and they began in 1981. I love their older songs, I don't really enjoy their newer songs. I chose Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) because I love hair metal ballads and because the other songs are kind of not appropriate (you will find this a kind of a theme in this blog post. I also chose Without You because I just love the song.
Poison consists of Rikki Rockett, Bret Micheals, Bobby Dall, C.C. Deville and they started in 1983. Before they were Poison, they were Paris. I like the songs from the '80's better than their newer stuff. I chose Fallen Angel because it is one of the few songs that isn't really a ballad that is actually appropriate. I also chose Something to Believe In because it's a sweet song because it was for their roadie who died and was the one who kind of kept them going, I would think.
Ratt consists of Warren DeMartini, Stephen Pearcy, Bobby Blotzer, Juan Croucier, and Robin Crosby
(now has Carlos Cavazo) and they started in 1976, but were signed in 1983. They were known as Mickey Ratt, before dropping their name to Ratt. I chose Your In Love because I love the song. I also chose Best of Me, which is one of their newer songs.
LA Guns consists of Tracii Guns, Paul Black, Mick Cripps, and Nickey Alexander and they started in 1989. Tracii Guns and Axl Rose were in the band together when they were just starting out, then they broke up and the two started Guns n' Roses and then Tracii left Guns n' Roses and went back to LA Guns. I chose Ballad of Jayne because it's just one of my favorite songs.
Skid Row consists of Sebastian Bach, Rachel Bolan, Dave Sabo, Scotti Hill, and Rob Affuso and they started in 1986. Sebastian was the youngest member of the band, but he had a great voice so he was put into the band by the manager, Doc McGee. I chose I Remember You and Youth Gone Wild because I love these songs.
Warrant consists of Jani Lane, Steven Sweet, Joey Allen, and Erik Turner and they started in 1984. Jani Lane died in 2011 and I saw it first on E! News on the bottom banner, I found it sad because it was the first death of a band member from a band I liked in the time I was alive. I chose Uncle Tom's Cabin because I like the song.
Cinderella consists of Tom Kiefer, Eric Brittingham, Michael Smerick, and Tony Destra and started in 1983. Jon Bon Jovi saw them in a club and made them get big. I chose Somebody Save Me because Bon Jovi does a cameo.
Def Leppard consists of Steve Clark, Rick Allen, Phil Collin, Joe Elliot, and Rick Savage and formed in 1977. They were actually a British band. I chose Hysteria and Photograph and Animal because I like these songs.
Vixen consists of Janet Gardner, Jan Kuehnemund, Share Pedersen, and Roxy Petrucci. I chose Edge of a Broken Heart because I chose their other hit in an earlier post.
Lita Ford had a solo career after The Runaways. I chose Kiss Me Deadly.
Faster Pussycat was also one of the bands. I chose You're So Vain.
Bon Jovi consists of Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora, David Bryan, and Tico Torres and started in 1983. I chose We Weren't Born to Follow because I like the song.
